Welcome to IVTA

The Imperial Valley Telecommunications Authority (IVTA) was established in 2001. We are a partnership of Imperial County public agencies collaborating to bring reliable broadband connectivity to Imperial County. IVTA is officially recognized as a Public Joint Powers Authority.

IVTA comprises 35 Imperial County partner agencies, including city governments, first responder agencies, higher education institutions, K-12 school districts, healthcare facilities, and county government offices.

Imperial County Office of Education (ICOE) acts as the program administrator, managing and maintaining the network. Our team maintains over 90 Miles of fiber optic cabling throughout the county. In March 2023, ICOE upgraded the connection serving IVTA to a 100G connection.

IVTA is committed to providing fast, reliable, and secure community-wide broadband access, serving all Imperial County Schools and Public Agencies, and contributing to community growth and development. Our innovative partnership with the Imperial Irrigation District (IID), which allows us access to IID infrastructure assets (fiber optic, poles, towers) already in place.

IVTA major projects include:

  • Connecting participating agencies to a state-of-the-industry fiber-optic communications network.

  • Planning for future uses of the high-speed network to improve efficiency and reduce costs of operations.

  • Connecting our community by providing Imperial County students with free high-speed internet access at home via our Borderlink Program. To learn more about this program visit BorderLink at www.icoe.org/borderlink.
